Lesson #4: Program Kick off

Picture
If we are being honest with ourselves, the idea of a dreaming program is a little bit weird.  I used to have a joke that I would tell as I explained the dreaming program to our new hires.  "How many of you had a Dream Leaders at your previous job?", I would ask.  A few chuckles, no hands.  "How many of you had dream crushers?"  Lots of hands, lots of knowing looks.  Dreaming programs are new and when things are new, we have to be very careful about how we introduce them into a new business.  Here are my recommended steps on how to kick off a dreaming program in your business.

1. Start with a pilot-  If you are in a large organization (250+ employees), start off with a pilot.  Train a group of leaders (4-5) and then find a group of (15-20) employees who are interested in getting things started.  This pilot approach can help you learn whether or not this kind of program will work in your organization or if your culture needs more tweaking before you begin.

2.  Train your leaders -  After the pilot, if/when you see the program being successful, it's time to train the rest of your leaders.  Leverage the Dream Leader Certification that we offer or design your own.

3.  Plan a Kick Off - Find a time to share with the whole company the concept of dreaming and why it matters to you as an organization.  Work to help everyone feel safe to dream.  A good way to start helping people feel safe to share is to have senior leaders go first.

4. Create the infrastructure - Most companies who implement the dreaming program will create infrastructure within the business to help track progress of dreams and to collect stories.  Ideas include a dream wall, a place for people to declare dreams and to announce when dreams are fulfilled.  Other companies have digital solutions that help weave dreaming in with their rewards and recognition program like Bucket List Rewards (bucketlistrewards.com).

This program has a tendency to gain momentum as you are able to publish stories of dreams that are accomplished and as you continue to incorporate the dreaming conversation into your one-on-one, team and company conversations.
